“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder without any such gift from the fairies, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in." - Rachel Carson

The Sound Wall

Rowan jams out to some sweet pan percussion in the woods

This is the newest addition to the trail in the woods in our backyard...our sound wall! I've been wanting to make one of these for a while and it was a simple but fun project. We've been doing some spring cleaning, so I put all the odd kitchen implements we didn't want anymore aside for the sound wall and supplemented with a couple of things we found at Goodwill. Aaron and I nailed a wooden cross-bar between two trees and hung some pots, pans, bowls, a cheese grater, a jar full of lentils for a shaker, etc. Then of course you have to have things to hit your "instruments" with, so we have a whisk, rubber spatula and wooden spoon, and the kids can go out and make loud noise with reckless abandon...outside of our small house. Ahhh.
